Journal #5

I have found some accounts related to psychology and have been checking them for new information every couple of days. I find these accounts beneficial to me because they allow me to stay updated on current events in psychology, as well as find resources for research. Twitter is something I use personally pretty often, outside of the psychology field I use Twitter to stay up to date on stuff happening in the world. When something major happens, like when Queen Elizabeth died recently, I usually find out from Twitter. Some people may think using Twitter as a news source is not very reliable, but I think it's a way to find news from people like me, which makes it more digestible. I think Twitter will be very useful in my future career because I will be able to connect with people in my field, find new research, and just see what is going on in my career field.
The digital divide is something that is very important for everyone to be well-versed in, it can happen in almost any school, and can affect a student's success. If a student does not have access to any technology, they will not be able to complete any assignment that requires the internet. This divide is mostly caused by poverty, something that many students will experience, and this is something that unfortunately can not easily be helped. If a student is impoverished then their parents will not be able to buy them smartphones, tablets, or computers. As a teacher, one must recognize this issue and find ways to work around this issue, one solution I have seen many schools implement is giving laptops to every student for the school year. This happened in the school district I was in, while I was a high schooler, and it was very important for me because I was one of the students whose parents could not afford to buy much technology. Being given a laptop by the school allowed me to the ability to do research at home, access school resources at home, and in general become well-versed with technology.
The main academic software I would implement in my classroom is Canvas, this is a software that I have used since high school and I find it very beneficial to my learning. Canvas has many effective components, I think the most beneficial component is the calendar feature. This allows students to see when assignments are due, when their next test is, and see the different things happening in class. Another software I would implement in my classroom is Kahoot, I had a lot of teachers use this in my primary school education and it was very effective. Kahoot allows students to test their knowledge while also competing for top spots, this encourages students to study by incentivizing it. Kahoot also allows teachers to see if their students are understanding the information taught, if there is a specific question that many students got incorrect, the teacher can note that and reteach that information.
